- Advent Festival- December 20  10:30-12 is pageant practice and lunch.  From 12-2 is the advent festival where the Nurture council has planned cookie decorating, card making, games and fun for everyone.

- Christmas Pageant- December 21 at the joint 10:30 service.  All youth involved need to arrive at the church by 9:30 sharp to allow enough time to get everyone dressed and have a final rehearsal.

- Christmas Caroling with the Church- December 21 at 6:30pm.  Meet at Lake Forest Living Community or get a ride there.  We will sing there for the first 30 minutes then break up into cars to drive around to other homes that are pre-determined.  At 9pm everyone drives to the Voss's home for hot chocolate, cookies, and fellowship.  Bring 1 dozen cookies per family to share.

- I Can't Wait for Christmas Party- December 22 from 1-4.  Planned is card making, movie, cookie baking, and a white elephant gift exchange.  Bring an item that you already own from home wrapped up to the party.  Don't go out and buy anything new!  This can be a really hilarious and fun activity if everyone participates.

- Christmas Eve Services-
4:00 Children's "Flashlight" Service- This is a low key service especially for younger kids.  Instead of lighting candles to sing Silent Night, you turn on your flashlight.  B.Y.O.F.
7:30 Traditional Christmas Eve Service with the Chancel Choir, and CANDLES for Silent Night.

- Operation Christmas Child:  Next week the youth will be assembling shoeboxes at their weekly meetings.  Youth are invited to bring a few items for boxes listed at the link listed below.  Participants are NOT required to bring in a complete box, only a few items that will be combined to create 3 boy boxes and 2 girl boxes.  This is a great sharing project and it will help make Christmas much happier for some underprivileged childeren.

Shoebox Item List

Current Projects:

Bottle Box- bottles are returned and money is put in the general youth mission fund

Family Promise Cleaning Kits- Now through November 2 we are collecting buckets filled with cleaning supplies for families to receive when they get placed in a new home.  Supply lists can be found on the Youth Director’s Door.  Please leave supplies in youth director office.

Operation Christmas Child:  Fill up a shoe box with small gifts like toys, hard candy, toothbrushes, school supplies, and hair accessories.  We will be doing this in each youth group for a child their age.  What a great way to start out the holiday season.  Visit them online for even more information.  www.samaritanspurse.org

Prayer Partners: The Youth Council is hoping to begin a new, but simple program this year.  The program is titled Prayer Partners.  Essentially the youth of the church will be paired with a member of the church for both parties to pray for each other.  This is a win-win effort.  Some of these relationships will develop into closer, more meaningful relationships beyond prayer.  The very worst case scenario is someone will be praying for you.  If you support this program and wish to volunteer to be a partner contact the church office.  We need as many volunteers as we have youth so please consider doing this wonderful endeavor.

About Us

Pizza Plus is for youth in 4th and 5th grade, on Monday afternoons after choir rehearsal at 5pm to join in fellowship.  It is called Pizza Plus because our favorite meal to have together is pizza and the plus is for the fun we have!  This group’s focus is on meeting together to eat, play games, sing, and begin learning about mission through smaller service projects like the Crop Walk, Community Meals, and church clean up.  Currently there are 7 youth who plan to regularly attend the group.

Our Junior High group is the smallest of our youth groups right now.  Youth in grades 6th-8th meet Sundays at 4:30.  At least once a month they get together to share dinner between meetings with the Senior High group.  They are at Confirmation age and are exploring their place in the church.  They are expected to participate in the church life as part of Confirmation and therefore will be exploring this through trying different opportunities in the church like ushering, greeting, fellowship time, community meals, Family Promise, helping with Church School events, Praise Band, and other community service opportunities.  For fun we plan to go the Corn Maze, bowling, canoeing, hiking, skiing, and YMCA.

Senior High Youth Group is the biggest and busiest group not just in school activities but youth activities too.  Between collecting bottles, Crop Walk, visiting the nursing home, picking apples for the food shelf, helping out with church events, MINC Mission trip in the summer and Washington DC in the winter, they do find some time for fun too.  In addition to all the fun activities that the group enjoys together, the High School youth are at the crossroads in their faith allowing for us to have more serious discussions.  In October we will begin a 4 week video series to explore the relationship between teens and their parents.  Meetings are Sundays from 6-7 pm and 5:30 when we are sharing a meal with the Junior High youth.
